Vasily Zhukovsky was a leading figure of Russian literature in the early 19th century. He was a major tutor to the Grand Duchess Alexandra Feodorovna—the Empress of Russia as the wife of Nicholas I, and later to her son Alexander II.
He introduced Romanticism into Russia. He's done free translations covering a wide array of poetry, such as those of Ferdowsi and Homer. Many of his translations have become classics of Russian literature.[1]
He was also the author of Russian Tsarist songs "God Save the Tsar!" and "The Prayer of Russians".
