Vardan Hakobyan (Վարդան Հակոբյան; 1862 – 1915) was an Armenian national liberation movement figure known for his lyrics to the Anthem of the Republic of Artsakh. He was killed in 1915 as a victim of the Armenian Genocide.[1][2]

In 1890, he was ordained a teacher. He has done a lot of work to inform the foreign public about the difficult situation of Western Armenians, especially in Sasun and Taron in the 1890s. In order to prevent Kurdish attacks, he negotiated with the Kurds, as a result of which some Assyrians took a neutral position. For some time, the Turkish government isolated Hakobyan from the monastery of Msho in St. Karapet. From the end was the goddess of the monastery. It was a party to the idea of ​​Hirai in the general rebellion and between 1901 and 1903, he worked widely. After the Sassounian rebellion in 1904, he was opposed to the fierce fighting in the Msho field. In April 1915, he was elected the spiritual leader of Mush. He was deported and martyred to the local population not far from Mush.[1]
