"Auspicious Happiness" (hi. शुभ सुख चैन) was the provisional anthem of Azad Hind, which lasted for two years as a Japanese puppet state. Adopted in 1941, it was based on a Bengali Brahmo hymn written in 1911 by Rabindranath Tagore titled "Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata", on which India's current national anthem "Jana Gana Mana" is based. Anti-British nationalist Subhas Chandra Bose along with Captain Abid Hasan Safrani and Mumtaz Hussain modified the lyrics of "Jana Gana Mana" and added two additional verses.[1] Bose later asked freedom fighter Captain Ram Singh Thakuri to give a "martial tune" for their song.[2]
India became independent on 15 August 1947, and the next morning anti-colonial nationalist Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled the banner on Red Fort and addressed the nation. Captain Thakuri was invited to play the music of "Shubh Sukh Chain" along with members of his orchestra.[3]
Lyrics[]

English translation[]
Rains of auspicious happiness fall,
India's Destiny has awakened!
All of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha, Dravida, Utkal, Bengal,
The wavy seas, the Vindhya, the Himalayas, the blue Yamuna and Ganges,
Sing your praises, get life from you, every body gains hope!
Like the sun it shines over the world, the auspicious name of India,
Victory to Thee! Victory to Thee! Victory to Thee!, Victory To Thee!
May your sweet voice keep love in everyone's heart,
The inhabitants of every province, the living beings of every religion,
By erasing all differences and distinctions,
Everyone has come into your lap, and together weave a garland of love.
Like the sun it shines over the world, the auspicious name of India,
Victory to Thee! Victory to Thee! Victory to Thee!, Victory To Thee!
On auspicious mornings, with fluttering wings, we sing your praises,
Fragrant, full winds bring seasons into life,
All together, Hind cries out,
Slogans of "Victory to Free India"
Our Beloved Country.
Like the sun it shines over the world,
The auspicious name of India,
Victory to Thee! Victory to Thee! Victory to Thee!, Victory To Thee!
