The "March of Reshad" (tr. Reşadiye Marşı) was the last anthem of the Ottoman Empire, then under the rule of Sultan Mehmed V, between 1909 and 1918.[1] The March was used during the Second Constitutional Era; it was created shortly after the Young Turk Revolution and relinquished a few years before the fall of the Ottoman Empire. When Mehmed V rose to power, a contest was held for a new national anthem, and Italian composer Italo Selvelli won the contest—his music was used for the "March of Reshad".[2] The music is a western-style classical composition played in a minor key. Although the anthem did contain lyrics like the previous one, they were not well documented and have thus been lost.
