Unofficial anthem of Afghanistan (2021-) "Da də batorano kor"
"This Is the Home of the Brave" is a Pashto nasheed dating back to 1996. In August 2021, the Taliban overthrew the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan under Muhammad Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, the fifth president of Afghanistan. The fall of Kabul, Afghanistan's capital city, stems from the Taliban offensive in May 2021, seizing numerous districts and provinces, which eventually lead to their victory. This coincided with the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country, ultimately ending the Afghan War.
Since 2021, it has been the National Anthem of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.[1][2][3] Its status is de facto,[2][3] since the Law of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan only specifies an official flag and emblem.[4] However, the previous anthem, "Milli Surud", has been de jure relinquished. It is one of six national anthems of Afghanistan overall. The song must be sung in a cappella—instruments are strictly forbidden. The lyrics were most likely written by the Taliban.[5]
History[]
In 1996, around the time when the nasheed was created, an Islamic Emirate was established after the Taliban took control over 90% of Afghan territory, overthrowing the Islamic State, except the northwestern part of the country where the Northern Alliance remained internationally recognized.[6] Between 1996 and 2001, all kinds of music was outlawed, including national anthems; therefore, the First Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan did not have an official national anthem.[7] However, this nasheed had been featured in opening credits of broadcasts by the Taliban's official radio station, Radio Shariat. The Islamic State of Afganistan went into exile during this time period; it had previously used "Fortress of Islam, Heart of Asia" as the national anthem.
In 2001, the United States, along with its main ally—the United Kingdom, took part in the invasion of Afghanistan after 9/11. In December of that year, the Northern Alliance with the help from the ISAF coalition successfully defeated the Taliban during the Battle of Tora Bora; and as a result, the First Islamic Emirate was abolished. Afghanistan then became a transitional Islamic State, readopting the National Anthem of the Islamic State of Afghanistan. In 2004, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan was established, and in 2006, a new anthem was adopted.
After the fall of Kabul in August 2021, the Taliban regained control of the entire country, and the Islamic Emirate was restored. Thus, the National Anthem of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, known as "Dā Də Bātorāno Kor" (دا د باتورانو کور) in Pashto, was de jure adopted.[8]

English[]
Chorus:
With our blood we defend, ’tis the home of the martyrs
’Tis the home of the brave, ’tis the home of the brave
All thy stones and bushes are like rubies
Spilt upon them is blood, all red like roses
Dost thou think ’tis conquerable? ’Tis the home of lions
’Tis the home of the brave, ’tis the home of the brave
Chorus
Thy liberty we shall protect, so long as our lives last
Thy history we shall recollect, so long as our lives last
Thee shall eagles inhabit, ’tis the home of eagles
’Tis the home of the brave, ’tis the home of the brave
Chorus
O dear homeland, I've poured my life to thee
O gracious field, I've poured my life to thee
Once freed by the English, a grave of Russians we've become
’Tis the home of the brave, ’tis the home of the brave
Chorus
Look at these many skulls, left by the Russians
Every enemy failed, their hopes shattered
Now ’tis obvious to all, ’tis the home of the Afghans
’Tis the home of the brave, ’tis the home of the brave
Chorus
