"Our Fatherland" is the national anthem of Armenia. It was composed by Barsegh Kanachyan and written by Michael Nalbandian in 1861.

It was first adopted in 1918 as the anthem of the First Republic of Armenia, but when the country became part of the Soviet Union, this anthem was banned and was instead replaced by another one. In 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, this anthem was successfully restored, albeit with minor changes to the lyrics.

In recent times, there have been efforts to replace this anthem with a new one.

Our homeland, liberated,
Sacred is this olden land.
Her sons and daughters have now called
For a free Armenia.

Here, a flag for thee, my comrade,
That I have sewn by my hand.
Over the nights that never fade,
Bathed in my tears now so grand.

O, look at it, tricoloured,
For us 'tis a symbol prized.
The foe shall perish by its grace,
Armenia shall progress!

This world filled with war and death.
Only once a mortal dieth
Blessed is the one who sacrificeth
For the freedom of his land.

Родина наша, свободная, независимая,
Что веками жила
Своих сынов ныне созывает
В свободную, независимую Армению.

Вот тебе, брат, флаг,
Который я связала своими руками,
Ночами я не спала,
Слезами омыла.

Посмотри на него, в трех цветах,
Священный наш знак,
Пусть блистает перед врагами,
Пусть всегда будет Армения!

Повсюду смерть одна,
Человек умирает только раз,
Но блажен тот, кто погибает
За свободу своего народа.

The original version of the Armenian national anthem is based on the first, third, fourth, and sixth stanzas of the poem The Song of an Italian Girl (Իտալացի աղջկա երգը), written by Nalbandian himself.

Our homeland, miserable, abandoned,
Downtrodden by our foes,
Her sons are now calling,
Ready for revenge, spite and grudge.

Behold, brother, a flag for you,
That I've sewn with my own hands,
During the sleepness nights,
Bathed in my tears.

Look at it, tricolored,
Our symbol cherished,
Let it shine against the foe,
May Austria be destroyed.

Death is the same everywhere,
Man who dies but even once.
Blessed is the one who dies
For the freedom of his land.
