The "Hymn to Germany" was the de facto national anthem of West Germany, which then-president Theodor Heuss aspired to establish as the new national anthem. The lyrics were written by Rudolf Alexander Schröder in 1950, and the music was composed by Hermann Reutter. In 1952, the official national anthem became none other than "Deutschlandlied".
