"God Bless the U.S.A.", also known as "Proud to Be an American", is an American patriotic song written and recorded by American country music artist Lee Greenwood in 1984. It was first performed at the 1984 Republican National Convention with then President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan. The song became more popular during the Gulf War in 1990, and even more popular in the wake of 9/11.[1]
The song has sold over a million copies in the United States by July 2015.[2]
