"God Bless America" is an American patriotic song written by Jewish musician Irving Berlin while serving in the U.S. Army in 1918 towards the end of the First World War. He changed the lyrics right before the start of the Second World War. It was published the following year by a publishing company founded by Irvin and two others. It has been recorded by American contralto Kate Smith.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Lyrics[]

God bless America, land that I love
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above
From the mountains to the prairies
To the oceans white with foam
God bless America, my home sweet home
God bless America, my home sweet home[7][6]
