"Forged from the Love of Liberty" is the national anthem of Trinidad and Tobago. In the summer of 1962, Guyanese-born Trinidadian composer Patrick Castagne composed the music and wrote the lyrics of the song. Shortly after, when the Caribbean island country became independent from the United Kingdom, this song was adopted to be the country's national anthem.[1][2]

It was originally composed as a proposed national anthem for the short-lived West Indies Federation (1958–1962), under the title "A Song for Federation".

Lyrics[]

Forged from the love of liberty
In the fires of hope and prayer
With boundless faith in our destiny
We solemnly declare:
Side by side we stand
Islands of the blue Caribbean sea,
This our native land
We pledge our lives to thee.
Here every creed and race find an equal place,
And may God bless our nation
Here every creed and race find an equal place,
And may God bless our nation.[3]
