Eugène Pottier was a French revolutionary and poet who is known for writing the original lyrics to "The Internationale".

Pottier was elected a member of the Paris Commune in March 1871. In June of that year, he wrote the poem L'Internationale following the defeat of the Paris Commune. His poem was later set to music by Pierre De Geyter in 1888, which became the International Workingmen's Association anthem during its last years (1871–1876), "The Internationale" has since been used by most socialist and left-wing political internationals since.
