Composers are musicians who write music. The traditional way of doing this is by writing down music on paper through the use of symbols, called 'music notation'. On the other hand, many other composers create music by improvising, which means that they invent the music as they play it, rather than writing it down.
Ancient music back then did not contain lyrics. Nowadays, it is common for music to be sung with words. Composers and lyricists work together to create the most enticing songs. Most national anthems and patriotic songs contain lyrics, as they often express pride in fulfilling political agendas.
Some songs such as folk songs were composed centuries ago and no one knows who wrote them.
