Colombia is a tropical equatorial country in northern South America, and the only South American country with coasts on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. With a population of over 51 million people, it is the third most populated country in Latin America after Mexico and Brazil. It is named after Christopher Columbus. It declared independence from Spain in 1810. Most Colombians are Castizos or Mestizos, and speak Spanish. Many of them can now be found in the United States.
