The State Anthem of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic was the national anthem of Uzbekistan when it was part of the Soviet Union. It was written by Soviet Uzbek writers Turab Tula and Temur Fattoh, and it was set to music by composer Mutal Burhonov in 1947. That year, that's when this song was adopted. Until 1956, the lyrics were revised in order to remove any mention of Stalin. After the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, this anthem was relinquished and replaced by the current anthem, which kept the same tune as the former anthem.[1][2][3]
Lyrics[]
There are two versions: the original lyrics which praised Joseph Stalin between 1947 and 1956, and the post-Stalinist version which removed any mention of Stalin between 1956 and 1992.
Note on orthography[]
Back then, the Cyrillic script was officially used to write the Uzbek language. Before the 1940s, an older Latin-based alphabet had been used; and before the 1920s, an Arabic-based alphabet had been used.[4]
Nowadays, the Latin orthography is used officially for Uzbek, although the Cyrillic is still widely used. Since 2019, a spelling reform was imposed by the Uzbek government in order to bring their orthography closer to other Turkic languages written in the Latin alphabet. This is due to enjoy official status by 2021.[5][6][7]

English version[]
Assalom, Russian folk, our great brother,
Glory to thee, our Lenin immortal and dear!
Our struggle for freedom pushed us forward,
By the Soviet state the Uzbeks have been glorified!
Chorus:
O Party, thou leadest our Uzbekistan,
'Tis flourishing, 'tis blessed with joyful destiny!
Land of earthly treasures in sunshine shone,
Forever be joy in the motherland with thee!
On hot days hidden from us was the sun,
Thirsty we were even by filled rivers.
Yet for us the October dawn was revealed by Lenin,
He who shall remain eternally in our hearts.
Chorus
Communism, thou art the blossom of earth,
Brotherhood, equality, friendship are our bulwark.
We raise the banner of victories glorious,
The red Soviet banner shineth the world.
Chorus

English version[]
Assalom, Russian folk, our great brother,
Our immortal genius Stalin dear!
The way to freedom thou hast us showed,
In the Soviet country, Uzbeks glory gained!
Chorus:
Long live the land of cotton, Uzbekistan free,
Flourish, radiant country of the East!
Banner of Soviets, banner of victory
Always wish fame to thee!
In the sunny country light we've lacked;
On river banks for water we've begged.
Yet the real sun of our genius Lenin appeared,
Along with the aid of Stalin, joy we've found.
Chorus
Bright are our paths with light of science and knowledge,
Forever brothers of the Soviet folk.
Let us smash the hordes of invaders,
Toward new victories we shall triumph!
Chorus
