The State Anthem of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic was the national anthem of Turkmenistan when it was part of the Soviet Union. The lyrics were written by a group of authors, and the melody was composed by Weli Muhadov, who also composed the tune of the current national anthem. First adopted in 1946, the lyrics were changed to remove mentions of Joseph Stalin after his death (like most SSR anthems) in 1978. When the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991 and Turkmenistan became an independent country, this anthem's melody was kept without lyrics until 1996.[1]

English translation[]
Unbreakable bulwark of peoples' friendship,
The entire Soviet Union became a family united
The Russian folk now a bastion of friendship –
Blessed with joy we are in our native land.
Chorus:
Chant ye, to the native land sunny and free,
Lenin's Party — a wise helmsman.
Thy step victorious to communism directed,
Blossom ye, Soviet land, dear Turkmenistan!
To freedom Lenin paved for us a path bright
And to life joyous and everlasting he led us.
He raised us folk to fight for our right,
To deeds and the triumph of labour he inspired us!
Chorus
Wholeheartedly we serve the cause of Communism,
Our fate to it we tied for day to come.
And with the red banner, Motherland's banner,
With valour we march on toward great vigour!
Chorus
Original version[]
Note that the last lines in the chorus are different.

English translation[]
Friendship of our people with equal rights
The Soviet Union turned it into a helpless fortress!
The leader of this friendship is the Russian people
The brotherhood also helped us.
Long live and glorious, you beautiful Motherland,
He will not leave you alive!
We will spare you a sweet soul
O Sunny Motherland, O Turkmenistan!
By opening the wide path of Lenin's freedom,
He brought us to happiness and happiness,
Stalin, the son of the people, the leader of the people.
From success to success.
Long live and glorious, you beautiful Motherland,
He will not leave you alive!
We will spare you a sweet soul
O Prosperous Motherland, O Turkmenistan!
Our country was developed during the Soviet era,
We have achieved our historical dream.
We are a free people of the Soviet Union
We are strong in both labor and struggle.
Long live and glorious, you beautiful Motherland,
He will not leave you alive!
We will spare you a sweet soul
Dear Motherland, O Turkmenistan!
