The Anthem of the Turkestan Autonomy, a former short-lived state in Central Asia, was adopted in November 1917. It was written by the Uzbek poet Abdulhamid Choʻlpon.
The lyrics were published by several newspapers and magazines that existed at the time. Even though the Turkestan Autonomy was officially a multinational and secular state, its anthem was written entirely in Uzbek. This is because Uzbek was the most commonly spoken language and was considered a lingua franca in the state.
The song is considered a folk song by some. It was performed by a number of singers and in recent years supporters of the pan-Turkic and Turanist movements. There have been arrests, exiles and executions of some people who sang this anthem in public. The anthem was widely known among representatives of Central Asian emigration in Turkey, the United States, Europe and the Middle East. The anthem has been translated into Tajik, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Turkmen and Uyghur.
