The Anthem of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic was the anthem of the Republic of Karelia when it was part of the Soviet Union. It was written by Armas Äikiä and composed by Karl Rautio. Back in 1945, the government of the Karelo-Finnish SSR held a competition for the creation of an anthem, and the winning entry was adopted as the SSR's official anthem that year. Until 16 July 1956 when the region was re-absorbed into the Russian SFSR and became an ASSR—having its status as an administrative unit diminished—this anthem was abolished.[1][2][3][4]
After the fall of the Soviet Union, a new anthem (State Anthem of the Republic of Karelia) is now used for this region.
